  • Abstract:
This document specifies the lighting classes M, C and P set out in EN 13201-2 and gives guidelines on the application of these classes. For this purpose, parameters are given that are relevant to the lighting of outdoor traffic areas. These are usually provided by the competent authorities for public traffic areas or by private decision-makers for non-public traffic areas. For comparability in the application of the different lighting classes, this document presents practical relationships in the form of comparable lighting classes. This document contains specifications for the selection of the area considered, on which the lighting classes according to DIN EN 13201-2 as well as the calculation grid and procedures according to DIN EN 13201-3 and energy efficiency criteria according to DIN EN 13201-5 are to be applied. The parameters used in this document allow: a) the description of a lighting situation in dependence on: the position of the area considered; the specific traffic present on the area; the influence of the environment. b) the special consideration of conditions that enable the effective use of energy. This document does not specify criteria for deciding whether to illuminate a traffic area or how to use a lighting system. It does not contain instructions for selecting the lighting classes for pedestrian crossings, tunnels, canals or locks. This document does not apply to the lighting of pedestrian crossings. For these, DIN 67523-1 and DIN 67523-2 apply.
